I know deciding to start physical therapy, especially when you’re paying out of pocket, isn’t easy. You’ve probably already tried resting, pushing through, or changing your workouts. When that no longer works, what you need is real clarity. These honest answers are here to help you feel confident about what comes next.

How does one-on-one physical therapy work?
How does one-on-one physical therapy work?

In this quick FAQ clip, I answer three questions people ask before booking:
In insurance-based clinics, do I get a full 90-minute evaluation with the same therapist?
If I pay privately with you, will I end up working with aides or a team?
Do I need a doctor’s referral or to file through insurance first?
By the end of the clip you’ll understand how a single, focused 90-minute evaluation can uncover the root cause of your pain, jump-start a personalized recovery plan, and often shorten the total number of visits you need. No insurance hurdles required.
Who I work with
Learn who I work with, the injuries I treat most often, and how to know if this care is the right fit for you.
Which injuries or pains do you see most often?
Most of the people I work with are dealing with recurring shoulder, knee, or lower back pain — often tied to workouts they love, like lifting, running, or bootcamp classes. A lot of times these aren’t new injuries, just ones that keep coming back. My goal is to help you break that cycle so you can stay strong without constantly nursing the same pain.

Do you only treat women?
I don’t only work with women. My focus is helping active women stay strong and overcome recurring pain. That said, I’m happy to work with anyone who’s motivated and ready to get to the root of their issue. Whether you’re deep into fitness or just starting your journey, I can help you move forward safely and confidently. And if you’ve ever been told to “just lift heavy” and wondered what that even means, or felt uncomfortable in a gym, I’ll guide you through it with clarity and support. The only exceptions are recent post-op or stroke patients, who need specialized care.

Are you sure I don't need a doctor's referral?
Absolutely! Under California law, you can directly see a physical therapist without a doctor's referral for up to 45 days or 12 visits. At Stay Strong Physical Therapy, you can immediately address your aches and pains without waiting for a doctor's referral. This direct approach means quicker relief, personalized attention, and starting your recovery right away, which can often lead to better outcomes and higher satisfaction compared to traditional referral-based physical therapy.

How it works
Find out what to expect from your sessions, how we approach treatment, and how we’ll work together to reach your goals.
Do you offer cupping?
Yes—but only when it truly serves your recovery. Cupping is one of many tools I might use during a session, but it’s never the focus of treatment. My goal as your physical therapist is to uncover the why behind your tension or pain, not just mask it temporarily. If cupping supports your specific treatment plan and helps us get to the root of your issue, I’ll include it. But I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all treatments. Everything we do is personalized and designed to create real, lasting results.

Is it safe to exercise when I’m in pain?
It depends, and that’s exactly what we figure out together. Some types of pain mean “stop,” but others are just signs that your body needs a smarter approach, not a full stop. My job is to help you understand the difference and design a plan that keeps you active while addressing what’s causing the pain in the first place.

Will you communicate with my trainer or coach?
Yes, and I encourage it. I’ll happily coordinate with your coach or trainer if you’d like. Whether you’re doing CrossFit, bootcamp, or personal training, I want your team to feel confident knowing exactly what movements are safe and what areas we’re working on together.

How many visits will I need?
It really depends on your goals, how long the issue has been around, and how your body responds. Some people feel a big difference after just one or two sessions, while others benefit from more consistent follow-up. Either way, we’ll decide together, based on your needs and progress, not a preset plan.

What if I need to reschedule?
Life happens! If you need to reschedule, just give me at least 24 hours' notice. That allows me to open the slot for someone else. Cancellations made less than 24 hours in advance may be subject to a fee.

We recommend wearing comfortable, athletic clothing that allows for easy movement (think leggings and a t‑shirt you’d train in). This will help you engage fully in your therapy.

Will you create a superbill for me?
Yes. If you'd like one, I'm happy to create a superbill for you. That said, please know that I can’t guarantee reimbursement. Every insurance plan is different, and acceptance of superbills is entirely up to your provider. But if you’re hoping to try, I’ll make sure you have the documentation you need. (If you're not familiar, a superbill is a detailed receipt you can submit to your insurance for possible out-of-network reimbursement.)

Do you offer packages or payment plans?
Yes, I offer optional packages for follow-up sessions, but there’s no pressure to commit upfront. Some people only need one or two sessions after their evaluation, while others benefit from a few more to stay on track. If that’s you, I offer 4 and 8-session packages to make things simpler (and save a little too). But you’re always welcome to pay per visit.

How much will it cost overall?
Since every case is different, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Some people just need a few visits to get back on track, while others choose to check in regularly to stay ahead of nagging pain. You’ll always know the cost up front, and we’ll make a plan that respects your time, goals, and budget.

Do you take insurance?
I don't bill insurance directly, but my individualized one-on-one model is intentionally designed this way. By working outside the insurance model, I’m able to focus completely on your unique needs, providing uninterrupted, high-quality care without insurance restrictions. You'll always know exactly what you're paying upfront, no surprises. Many clients find they actually save time and experience faster progress because a tailored approach often leads to fewer total visits compared to going through insurance. And don't worry, I provide receipts which you may submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement if you have an HSA/FSA account. Upon request, I can create a superbill for you for potential reimbursement through out-of-network benefits.
